Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between sex therapy and transformational coaching?

While traditional sex therapy typically focuses on diagnosing and treating sexual dysfunction from a clinical perspective, our transformational coaching approach is more holistic and growth-oriented. We integrate somatic awareness, emotional intelligence, communication skills, and pleasure-focused practices to help you create lasting change. Dr. Dacker brings her medical expertise to these conversations while maintaining a coaching framework that emphasizes your innate wisdom and capacity for transformation.

Is this appropriate if I've experienced sexual trauma?

Yes. Our coaching is deeply trauma-informed and paced according to your comfort level. We create a container of safety first, ensuring you have complete agency throughout our work together. Many clients find that this approach helps them reclaim aspects of their sexuality that felt lost or damaged after traumatic experiences. We may also recommend complementary support, such as therapy, somatic experiencing, or other modalities that can work alongside our coaching.

Do I need to attend sessions with my partner(s)?

Not necessarily. Many individuals benefit from doing this work on their own first, especially if they're reconnecting with their own desires and boundaries. Couples and moresomes often find value in both individual and joint sessions. We can discuss what arrangement might serve you best during your initial consultation.

What if I don't know what I want sexually?

You're in good company! Many people come to coaching precisely because they feel disconnected from their desires or unsure about what brings them pleasure. The STARS Model provides a compassionate framework for exploration, helping you uncover what feels authentic for you without pressure or expectation. This journey of self-discovery is often the most rewarding part of our work together.

How does gender or sexual orientation affect the coaching approach?

Our coaching framework is inherently inclusive and adaptable to your unique experience. Whether you're straight, queer, nonbinary, transgender, or questioning, the STARS Model provides a structure that honors your specific needs and context. Dr. Dacker brings experience working with diverse identities and expressions, and approaches each person's journey with cultural humility and respect.

How many sessions will I need?

Transformation isn't a one-size-fits-all process. Some clients experience significant shifts after just 2-3 sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support over several months. After your initial consultation, we'll discuss a recommended timeline based on your goals. Many clients begin with a series of 4-6 sessions, then reassess their needs and progress.

What topics can we address in coaching?

Our transformational coaching can address a wide range of sexual and relational concerns, including but not limited to: desire discrepancies, communication challenges, body image and sexual confidence, pleasure exploration, navigating non-monogamy, sexual technique and skill-building, kink and BDSM education, reconnecting after betrayal, sexual empowerment after trauma, and navigating sex through life transitions like parenthood, menopause, or illness.
